Rebecca Mooney, fine artist based in Wellington, New Zealand

HI, I'M REBECCA

I am a Wellington based visual artist and a first-generation New Zealander with Irish ancestry. I hold a Master of Fine Arts (Hons) from Massey University.

My art explores the connections that bind us to the natural world. I find inspiration in nature and often contemplate my surroundings through walking.

My work serves as a gentle reminder that we are part of the complex web of existence. This theme of connection is present throughout my art. It combines beauty with deeper ideas, reflecting my love for the relationship between art, nature, and human life.

I have been a practicing artist for over 30 years. In addition, I spent 11 years working as a preparator at the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery, and owned a design store and gallery in New Plymouth for 8 years. Before that, I was a wallpaper designer at Ashley Wallcoverings in Wellington after earning a Diploma in Interior Design from ATI, Auckland.

After living in Singapore for 6 years, I moved to Wellington in 2017 to pursue a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) at Massey University. I currently have a studio at Toi Pōneke on Able Smith Street.
